Not the best day for taking photos, but just wanted to get down the birds I saw today. We have had two weeks of warm sunny weather in February, the hottest few days in many years for this time of the year.
The consequences are every "Spring" started! a little to soon, there are wildflowers out and the Hawthorn is in leaf. Bees and Butterflies have been spotted.
Weather it's because it's been so nice and I have been out more often this moth than I normally would, I have noticed many of the birds are paired up and already nest building. We are due a cold snap in the second week of March, might even get some snow ! If it last I fear it will effect the wildlife.
Again the most obvious bird apart from the Goldfinch was the Robin singing. I noted more blackbirds than I have before and was surprised to see a flock of Redwing feeding on the grass near the pond, 30+ birds which is the larges group I have seen all year.
Reports of Waxwings in the car park at Aldi , not a bird I have had here due to the lack of Ash trees, there are two small trees on the land near Queenssway Rd, berries long gone.
Other treats were to see the male and female Bulfinch, and two Great spotted woodpeckers flying and drumming on the edge of Kirk Lane and Nunroyd.
A female Chaffinch is another bird I seem to see less of these days.
