Bird
25 November 2018*
The UK's only naturalised parrot - it is large, long-tailed and green with a red beak and a pink and black ring around its face and neck. In flight it has pointed wings, a long tail and very steady, direct flight. Often found in flocks, numbering hundreds at a roost site, it can be very noisy.
What beautiful photos, Amanda. I wonder where you took them. I have only seen these birds once so far, and that was in the trees in the grounds at Hampton Court.
ReplyDeleteAh, I have the answer as I have just caught up with your previous post!
ReplyDeleteThanks Caroline, beautiful looking bird.
DeleteIt is a gorgeous creature, but from what I read garners a fair amount of hostility from people opposed to introduced (and established) exotics. It is paradoxical that as humans we can introduce a species and then immediately call for its eradication!
ReplyDeleteThanks David, it's a very hard question to answer really as some introduced species have not had such an impact, for example the little Owl. I think these birds get noticed more due to their colour and the noise they make.
